Yuka Ueda is a textile designer and batik artist based in Bali Indonesia.

Born and raised in the bustling heart of Osaka, Yuka Ueda graduated in visual design from Kyoto College of Art, and studied under textile dyeing artist Ayako Chiba and Java-based batik artist Hiromichi Narusawa.

Since 2010 Yuka has been based in Bali, Indonesia, where she collaborates with batik craftsmen from Java. In Bali she is the designer and curator of textiles at the Botree fashion outlets in Ubud, Bali.

She also designed the staff uniforms at Hoshinoya Ubud.

Beyond Indonesia Yuka Ueda has joined forces with Hiroya Asari in Thailand in 2015, exhibited at the Atelier Manis Exhibit no 165, The Help Gala Exhibit in Kyoto and The ExtraPreview 16 in Tokyo in 2018. In Japan her work has been exhibited at the finest retail outlets such as the Matsuya Department Store in Shinjuku in 2018.

Her work spans from creating art pieces in textile sculpture to designing home furnishings such as cushions, bed cloths, table cloths, as well as well hangings. She designs and produces personal accessories such as scarves, bags and patterns for clothing.

A truly unique artist with hard-earned skills and connections in Japan and Indonesia, Yuka Ueda stands on the threshold between the ancient batik tradition she has mastered and the modern designs that tell her story.
